Wimbledon Bets: Round Up

To say that the last two weeks of tennis was interesting would be one of the biggest understatements I could possibly ever come up with. The whole Wimbledon competition was intense since the very first round, and it was only a matter of time until we saw a match between the two best players in tennis.

Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray went head to head yesterday with quite an epic match; it was definitely the most energetic and nail-biting battle of the whole competition, especially if you’re British or Serbian.

The Men’s Final

Some people are saying that it was a one-sided match for Andy Murray, however if you were watching the game then you would know otherwise. Whilst Murray may have won in three straight sets, Djokovic was not making life easy for him. Several times the two were fighting for an advantage point where the Serbian server would just deny Murray of every point possible.

After 77 years, the Wimbledon cup has finally been won by a British champion, and if you one of the sensible people betting with Paddy Power then you would have won no matter what, as they have refunded all losing outright bets since Murray won the tournament.

The Women’s Final

It was a shock to see Serena Williams go out before the finals, but these things happen; plus she’s won Wimbledon enough times, let someone else have a go. Unfortunately, the bane of Williams couldn’t bring it home and lost to Marion Bartoli in 2 straight sets.

While Sabine Lisicki may not have won Wimbledon, she can still hold her head up high that she took on the number 1 seed and still beat her. Marion Bartoli will definitely go home happy with a trophy under her arms, even after some derogatory comments from John Inverdale.

There’s Always Next Year

So that’s another year of Wimbledon over with; the player’s will still be practising for the next event and we’ll just hold our breathe for next year’s Wimbledon. We’ve got a British male champion now, how about we start backing Laura Robson too? Couldn’t hurt to win Wimbledon twice in a row with both genders. Wimbledon Bets: Day 10

Yesterday was the start of the quarter final rounds at Wimbledon, and everyone was on the edge of their seats when we saw some more of the world’s finest tennis players leave the tournament for another year.

Andy Murray had a close match yesterday against Fernando Verdasco and they fought for 5 sets. Murray eventually took the lead in the final set though, and goes on to the semi-finals with a score of 4-6, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 and 7-5.

Novak Djokovic didn’t have anywhere near as much trouble against the seventh seed player Tomas Berdych. The match was short lived as Djokovic won in three straight sets with 7-6, 6-4 and 6-3.

Finally, Lukasz Kubot is finally out of the tournament after an impressive run, but he still couldn’t hold his own against Jerzy Janowicz. The two Polish players fought for three sets, but Janowicz was able to constantly best Kubot and pushes into the semi-finals.

Wimbledon Bets: Day 8

As the second week of Wimbledon started, we saw only a few of the world’s best make it through to the final rounds. Nadal and Federer left earlier than expected, and yesterday we saw possibly the biggest upset this year! Here’s the summary of yesterday’s matches:

Andy Murray kept his record and beat Russian player Mikhail Youzhny in three straight sets. He ended with the score 6-4, 7-6, 6-1, and has so far won all of this year’s matches without giving away a set. Looks like we might be seeing Murray in the finals again!

Kubot also struggled through, managing to barely beat his opponent, Adrian Mannarino. The score ended at 4-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 with Kubot winning the last two sets and the match, although he does look like he’s starting to struggle; will we see him for much longer?

Djokovic, much like Murray, is also going full steam towards the final as he annihilated German player Tommy Haas. Djokovic has also managed to beat all of his opponents so far in three straight sets, this time scoring 6-1, 6-4 and 7-6.

In possibly the biggest upset so far this tournament, Serena Williams has bowed out early after being defeated by German player Sabine Lisicki. The two ladies both scored a set each, but Lisicki managed to win the last set and the match, ending the game at 6-2, 1-6 and 6-4.

We’ve nearly had a full week of Wimbledon now, and as more and more players drop out we’ll be nearing the finals soon enough. All the remaining player’s got a nice long rest yesterday, getting them ready for the last few rounds they will have to face. Here’s what happened with Saturday’s big matches:

Serena Williams did exactly as expected and was able to shrug off the challenge from Japanese player Date-Krumm in two straight sets, scoring 6-2 and 6-0.

Kubot and Paire were finally able to have their match after it being postponed due to the rain. Kubot eventually beat Paire in three straight sets, scoring 6-1, 6-3 and 6-4.

Djokovic also played just as expected, and dominated the court by beating Jeremy Chardy in three straight sets. Could we be seeing Djokovic and Murray together in the final?

A much more interesting day for Wimbledon fans today than yesterday was, even if there was a few cancelled matches because of rain. Here’s what happened yesterday:

Lukasz Kubot and Benoit Paire had to postpone their match due to the rain, so they’ll be playing today instead. The odds have changed since yesterday though, so you could win more with the right bet!

Murray went through to the next round with yet another win from three straight sets. He was able to blast Tommy Robredo out of the competition with a score of 6-2, 6-4 and 7-5.

Serhiy Stakhovsky, the man who beat Roger Federer, has now ended his Wimbledon run after being beaten in 4 sets by Jurgen Melzer. We’ll be keeping an eye on Melzer from here on out.

It seems that we’re enjoying a mix of days for this years Wimbledon. One day we’ll have a few shocks and surprises, the next will be plain and exactly as predicted; let’s just hope that an unpredictable day doesn’t land on the same day that Murray is playing…

Novak Djokovic is still proving why he’s considered to be the world’s number 1 tennis player by winning his second round match in three straight sets of 7-6, 6-3 and 6-1. Obviously Bobby Reynolds went all-in in the first set and couldn’t recover from that.

Here’s something else that won’t shock you; Serena Williams is through to her next round too. She was able to beat her opponent Caroline Garcia in two straight sets with a 6-3 and a 6-2. It’s not unlikely that we’ll see her winning Wimbledon for the 11th time.

Wimbledon Bets: Day 4

We’re onto day 4 of Wimbledon now, and yesterday was just as exciting as day 1. On the first day of Wimbledon we say Nadal leave early, what could top that?

Steve Darcis had to pull out from the tournament due to a shoulder injury which he might have sustained during his previous match with Rafael Nadal. This means that Polish player Lukasz Kubot will go straight through to the next round.

Andy Murray surprised no one by beating Lu Yen-hsun in three straight sets, scoring 6-3, 6-3 and 7-5 altogether. It’s looking more and more likely that Scotland’s own could make it to the final and take the tournament by storm.

Defending champion Roger Federer dropped a few jaws yesterday when he made his earliest Wimbledon exit since 2002 after losing to the Ukrainian player Serhiy Stakhovsky in 4 sets. Just so you know, anyone who bet £10 on Stakhovsky yesterday would have won £800… Just saying.

Wimbledon Bets: Day 3

The second day of Wimbledon had no real shocks or sudden departures, the world’s best players powered through as expected and we’ll be seeing them all in the second round (except for Nadal of course).

Novak Djokovic performed just as expected and stormed through his opponent, Florian Mayer, with three straight sets scoring 6-3, 7-5 and 6-4. We’re not likely to see the men’s world number one in tennis taken out of the tournament any time soon.

Serena Williams also wowed the courts in her usual way by beating Mandy Minella in two straight sets, scoring 6-1 and 6-3. This takes her through to the second round, and we would expect nothing else from the women’s number one tennis player.

Yesterday at Wimbledon wasn’t just your average first day; in fact I don’t think we’ve had a day like that in a while!

Roger Federer made it through the first round with relative ease, betting his opponent Victor Hanesku in three straight sets with 6-3, 6-2 and 6-0. We would expect nothing less from the current reigning men’s champion of Wimbledon.

Murray also didn’t disappoint, as he also beat his opponent in three straight sets with 6-4, 6-3 and 6-2. Benjamin Becker can’t be feeling too bad for losing to a second seed player, and Murray can steam on through to the next round.

The real upset came from Rafael Nadal, who, against all belief, lost to Steve Darcis from Belgium. Darcis proved his worth against the fifth seed player by beating him in three straight sets. Nadal was expected to win with 1/100 odds, so anyone who bet on Darcis will surely have a smile on their face today.
